Barber

Become a Founding Barber

You already have something healthcare systems spend years trying to build. Trust.

Your job is not to provide healthcare.

Many clients see their barber repeatedly throughout the year. That relationship creates something potentially valuable for men’s health: a trusted, recurring community connection. PHILL wants to test whether barbershops can become voluntary access points to the Men’s Health Challenge without turning barbers into healthcare workers.

You would not:

  • diagnose clients
  • recommend treatment
  • interpret medical results
  • manage someone’s HIV status
  • become a case manager
  • maintain clinical records

The proposed role is much simpler.

Introduce → Connect → Reconnect

Introduce clients to an opportunity. Help them connect when they are interested. Remain the trusted community relationship you already were. PHILL handles what comes next.

What’s in it for the shop?

Flight 01 is being co-designed, so we want barbers to help answer that question rather than PHILL deciding it for them. Concepts being explored include:

  • barber compensation for defined program activities
  • training and professional development
  • community-health leadership recognition
  • shop-level loyalty infrastructure
  • community marketing
  • client engagement tools
  • referral relationships
  • participation in the Founding Barber Council

We are looking for founding barbers, not referral agents. We do not want to pay barbers based on diagnoses, HIV tests, or which healthcare provider someone chooses. We want barbers to help us design a model that protects the trust they already have. Before we build it, sit at the table.
